Welcome to the Friday Woods Riding Group website

This site provides information on the group, the groups activities and information relevant to riding in and around the Friday Woods Training Area, Colchester, Essex.

Friday Woods Training Area provides 2500 acres of off road riding. The area is a complex mosaic of woodland, scrub, heath, grassland and fen, comprising Friday Woods and Berechurch Common.

The unimproved acid grassland is one of the few sizeable areas remaining in Essex, which together with the other habitats supports a diverse breeding bird population and over a thousand species of moths and butterflies.

Add into this mix, army dry training, military vehicles, marching and running troops and the occasional low flying helicopter and you soon have a picture of the area we ride in.

Don't let the last bit put you off. The woods and surrounding areas of Donylandwood etc are offer a great variety of terrain for riding.

Parking
There is a public carpark on Boundstead Road which is sutible for lories or trailers. Please bear in mind that ths is a public car park so do please park with care and consideration
